One year ago the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the novel coronavirus was a Public Health Emergency of international concern, identifying the spread of the disease as a pandemic.

Perth Blood Institute (PBI) would like to acknowledge the difficulties people have suffered over the past year. I would like to use this opportunity to express my personal admiration for frontline healthcare workers, who put their own health at risk to care for our community.

If the past year has taught us anything, it is the importance of resilience and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. As we reflect on the year, we are reminded of the ways we have responded and adapted to these changes, and we should all be proud of our ability to continue to adapt to the daily challenges we face.

PBI launched our Thrombosis Australia initiative in November 2020. This online hub for the community and professionals provides a platform to share news and information of the impacts of COVID-19 for blood disorder patients.

As an organisation we have endeavored to stay on the front foot, by keeping up-to-date with current research emerging in the blood disorder community. It is our priority to share this with our stakeholders. 

As the pandemic continues to challenge our lives, I would like to thank our supporters for continuing to support our organisation during these challenging times and also extend my personal thanks to PBI staff who have worked tirelessly throughout.
