Thrombosis Australia Advisory Panel

                    

We have established an advisory panel to provide oversight and direction to Thrombosis Australia, to ensure that the information we provide is current and accurate. The panel consists of eminent healthcare professionals that collectively bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Thrombosis Australia Initiative. The breadth of their collective experience covers a range of clinical and academic interests relating to blood disorders, including distinguished editorial roles, clinical trial design and management, teaching, and extensive authorship.

The advisory panel sets the benchmark for the quality, accuracy, and currency of information by critically evaluating and reviewing content, and offers dynamic perspectives and advice to maintain oversight of the purpose and usefulness of the Thrombosis Australia Initiative in the fight against venous thromboembolism.

The panel is chaired by Professor Ross Baker, founding director the Perth Blood Institute.                       


Dr Jennifer Curnow MBBS, FRACP, FRCPA, PhD

Dr Jennifer Curnow received her FRACP and FRCPA in Haematology in 2004/2005 and is the Director of Clinical Haematology for Western Sydney LHD at Westmead Hospital. Dr Curnow is a former president of the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Society of Australia (formerly the Australasian Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis) and is chair of the THANZ Education subcommittee. Dr Curnow is also co-author of multiple national and state guidance documents for thrombosis and haemostasis. Dr Curnow chairs the NSW Clinical Excellence Commission Anticoagulant medicines working party.  


Prof Graeme J. Hankey MBBS MD FRCP FRCPEdin FRACP FAHA FESO FWSO FAAHMS

Graeme Hankey is Professor of Neurology at The University of Western Australia, and a Consultant Neurologist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. He is an Associate Editor of Circulation, Editorial Consultant for The Lancet Neurology, a consulting Editor of the International Journal of Stroke, and Section co-Editor for the Epidemiology, Outcomes, & Population Science section of Stroke.  He is a Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher for 2017-2019, co-authoring 10 books and >900 research articles, with > 100,000 citations (h-index 121).


Professor Shirley Jansen PhD FRACS FRCS MBChB

Shirley Jansen is Professor of Vascular Surgery at Curtin University, and both Head of Department and Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. She is Director of the Heart & Vascular Research Institute, Programme Lead Cardiovascular at Harry Perkins Institute for Medical Research and Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of WA. Shirley has broad research interests in vascular and endovascular surgery with over 60 published research papers and 4 book chapters. She has extensive experience conducting clinical trials as primary investigator including first in man.         


Dr Jamie Price FRACP FRCPA

Dr Jamie Price graduated from UWA in 1973. Dr Price was a resident at Princess Margaret and Royal Perth Hospital and specialises in haematology. Dr Price was appointed Clinical Haematologist at PMH and worked in haematology and oncology for over 30 years. His special interests are in paediatric haematology, bleeding disorders, and thrombotic disorders. One of his major objectives was in the prophylaxis of haemophilia and the preservation of joint function in haemophiliac patients.                     


Dr Peter Purnell MBBS FRACP FCSANZ

Dr Purnell is a cardiovascular imaging specialist based in Perth, WA. He was previously Head of Department of Cardiology at Joondalup Health Campus and currently works in research and private practice. His primary clinical interests are in heart failure, coronary disease, valvular heart disease, stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation, and cardio-oncology. He set up GenesisCare Cardio-Oncology service in WA in 2018 for medical oncology, expanded in 2019 to cover radiation oncology. Dr Purnell is the founding Director of Joondalup Cardiovascular Trials Inc., an independent, not-for-profit research organisation. He is also Head of Research GenesisCare Cardiology Western Australia.


Professor Huyen Tran MBBS (Hons) Master Clin Epi FRACP FRCPA

Professor Huyen Tran is a Professor at Australian Centre for Blood Diseases, Monash University, and Director of the Ronald Sawers Haemophilia Treatment Centre and Clinical Thrombosis Service, The Alfred Hospital. Both of these organisations undertake research based on their specialisation.  Prof Tran has over 75 publications in peer-reviewed journals, has been involved in clinical trials for 20 years and contributes to several advisory boards. He is Chair of the Australian Haemophilia Centre Director's Organisation, and Chair of the Clinical Trials Group of the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Society of Australia and New Zealand.
